Never underestimate the craft of a Fox! ;) “Up in the Sky” by Meg Konovska.

This is piece No 8 of the “33” watercolour series by Meg Konovska (*khu-khum*, that would be… ME!).

The series consists of 33 paintings, 33 x 33 cm each. They are all created in the following manner:
• Randomly make 33 dots on the blank sheet, with eyes closed
Connect the dots in a complete contour, without intersecting lines
• The resulting silhouette is developed in a sketch which is completed in colour.

To top it off, each painting is accompanied by an explanation for the unsuspecting observer to consider.

I now give you

Up in the Sky (sold)

Painting 33x33 cm watercolour on 50% cotton acid free paper, 250 gsm. Overall size with framing: 44x44 cm. Mounted behind glass with wooden frame.

Little Foxy had a true passion for aeroplanes. He dreamed of building an airport one day — so huge that it would host thousands of aeroplanes each day. It would be the largest airport in the entire United Kingdom, worthy for British Airways. He had even invented a name for it — a name which every self-respecting fox would take pride in…

While he was a youngster that seemed absolutely fine, but later while growing up the other cubs started making fun of him, for they found his dream impossible, and this crotchety fellow Foxy would not give up on it in favour of something more realistic (like strangling chicken, for example).

While the others were involved in various fox crimes, Foxy secluded himself around the hills by the pine woods (depicted) and imagined his plane roaming through the clouds over the terrain where some day would be his airport.

Before too long Foxy left his native land to take the road to his dream. Years passed and little Foxy became Mister Fox. He returned to his homelands as a rich and respected fox and nobody would make fun of him any more. Very soon the yearned airport was already a fact.

Today it still has the original name chosen by Foxy to arouse pride in the hearts of all foxes worldwide — HEATHROW* airport in West London, the largest airport in the United Kingdom, with the highest number of passengers in all Europe and the sixth busiest airport in the world**.

Just to mention, Mister Fox is also a founder of the company 20th Century Fox and the TV channels FOX crime and FOX life. In them he adapts the adventures of his known foxes for human audience which comes to show that actually humans and foxes are quite similar and somewhat explains why you can hear of “foxes’ human rights” in Britain.

*The word for Cunning in Bulgarian is pronounced as [h’itro], which is very similar to Heathrow. This joke is derived from the cunning character attributed to foxes.
